what we do

ECPAT NZ (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography, Child Sex Tourism and Trafficking in Children for sexual purposes) is the only organisation in New Zealand whose sole focus is to address the issue of the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC). We focus on five strategic areas to ensure that children are protected both nationally and internationally from:

  • Child prostitution
  • Child pornography (particularly on the Internet)
  • Child sex tourism
  • Trafficking of children for sexual purposes
  • Internet risks

The ECPAT NZ office has 1 full time and 2 part time staff members and several volunteers who work on regional projects. The organisation is governed by an Executive Committee. They are assisted by an Advisory network composed of professionals with appropriate expertise. The office maintains a library of newspaper and journal clippings, videos and books. These resources are available on request.

In 2001, ECPAT NZ undertook the first survey of child prostitution in New Zealand. The results from "Exploited Children" are available here.

ECPAT NZ has conducted interviews with people who began working in the commercial sex trade under the age of 18. The results of those are contained in six reports available from the Research section.
