Training and Workshops

ECPAT NZ provides public and in-house training to governmental and non-governmental organisations, frontline professionals, and the general public on issues relating to the commercial sexual exploitation of children. We deliver training for government agencies, (including at NZ Police College, Oranga Tamariki and Ministry of Health NZ) and for financial institutions.

Our training programme is a core part of our awareness raising work across Aotearoa New Zealand. Specific trainings offered can vary year to year with fluctuating grant funding. Reach out to our Engagement team if you’re interested in hearing what we are currently offering. We aim to provide options for in-house trainings that can be tailored to your team’s needs, and open, public trainings both online and in person.

Our content covers:

  • An introduction to child sexual exploitation
  • Types of exploitation, – grooming, survival sex, child sexual abuse material, and trafficking.
  • The Aotearoa NZ context
  • What to look for
  • Barriers to disclosure
  • Trauma informed responsiveness

If you would like us to deliver something specific to your teams/role/group, please reach out. We can tailor our training to the needs of parents, health workers, police, concerned community members or any other group of relevant attendees. See our Trainings Page for more information or contact office@ecpat.org.nz to discuss your training needs.

What people say about our training

‘Thank you very much for coming to our team hui, it has created a lot of discussion within the team, and it was great training. So worthwhile and as we were discussing a case this morning, we talked about how we can understand, now, why some children can be groomed when things are not great at home.’

‘We had very positive feedback from our team. Some said that without this training, they wouldn’t have known how much of an issue this is in NZ; that this is not just an overseas thing. One said that she had come across cases in the past with indications of SEC but had no idea that she could contact ECPAT NZ for guidance/information.’

We aim to provide subsidised trainings and workshops so that cost is not a barrier. Many thanks to our grant funder for making this possible: Foundation North, J R Mckenzie Trust, Lotteries NZ, COGS, and Bryant Trust.
