The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has expanded its digital child exploitation filter by adding up to 30,000 new URLs to block access to child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The filter, operational since 2022, uses hash-matching technology to identify and restrict CSAM, now covering over 700,000 URLs.

Managed by DIA in partnership with NZ Police and international agencies like INTERPOL, the system prevents users from accessing flagged content through ISPs. Recent updates focus on emerging platforms and AI-generated abuse material. The DIA reports the filter has blocked over 2.5 million access attempts since inception.
